Im such a fan of ”The Price of Beauty” reality show by Jessica Simpson. This show is about different cultures defining what beauty really means to them. Jessica Simpson and a couple of her friends travel the world to explore different cultures of beauty. I love this show because I think it sends a positive message to young women out there who are constantly pressured to look a certain way. Especially in a media saturated world, a lot of young women in America feel the need to be skinny just because they see beautiful celebrities on television. People tend to look at the outside beauty of a person because that is what gets notice first. Even though outside beauty is a good quality to have, a lot of women do not realize that beauty comes from within. Beauty on the inside is what makes you a great person.
The Price of Beauty
May 27, 20107 year old dancers
May 20, 2010On Kcal 9 news they showed a clip of 7 year old girls wearing skimpy outfits dancing to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies.” This was a controversy because a lot of people felt that their outfits were exposing too much for their age and not to mention their outrageous dance moves. I actually thought they were great dancers. I felt like the media took it as a negative perspective but I took in a positive perspective. I considered it to be cute rather than provocative. I saw the whole video clip from yak films but it has recently been blocked by yak films. It apparently gained 2 million viewers on YouTube. I believe short clips of it are still available on certain news sites.
Cheating Website Gains Popularity
May 12, 2010On Fox News with Hannity, one of the topics they were discussing was a website called ashleymadison.com. This is a cheating website where married couples join to have an affair with other people. The website promotes itself by showing racy videos of couples where the man is shirtless and the woman is in lingerie kissing each other. In between clips it says “This couple is married” then it says “But not to each other.” Apparently, over 30k women joined the cheating website after Mother’s Day. Their slogan is “Life’s too short, have an affair.” The CEO Noel Biderman does not think anything is wrong with the website. He says he is married and his wife is probably watching but all he is trying to do is help people find happiness that they don’t find in their marriage. His argument was if he can support gay marriage then why can’t he support affairs. I really think this guy is crazy and I wonder what his marriage is like. How can you argue gay marriage and affairs??? His reasoning is based on two opposite factors. If you think about the word marriage it is a commitment versus affairs which is against a commitment. Even gay people get married because they want to be committed to each other and they don’t want to be cheated on. I think this website is controversial because it promotes itself through sexual ads and it goes against the traditional morals. It is also a bad influence to young women and young men because it teaches them that cheating is okay. This means that people are going to get hurt and there will be no morals and values. If cheating becomes okay then there will be no trust, honesty or faith between all people. This website should be banned. What do you think???
Elisabeth Hasselback VS. Erin Andrews
May 5, 2010Im watching the Insider and just before this show was Entertainment Tonight. Both shows main story for today is Elisabeth Hasselback commenting on Erin Andrews. It is a big controversy because Elisabeth Hasselback commented about a very sensitive subject on Erin Andrews being a victim of stalking. She said that the peeping Tom should have waited 12 weeks later to see Erin Andrews on Dancing with the Stars wearing close to nothing so he wouldn’t have to get the jail time. I thought the comment was very inappropriate and rude. It was really interesting how the media made it even more dramatic by showing clips of Erin Andrews on Dancing with the Stars wearing two specific provocative outfits when those weren’t the only outfits she had. The Insider has a good way of attracting their audience by allowing them to get involved. They ask questions like “Who’s side are you on?” and vote if you think Elisabeth Hasselback went to far. I just realized that even though I don’t care too much about the story its almost like a reaction because I end up answering back to the tv.
Imitations This Week
April 30, 2010There was a commercial with babies rollerblading and when I first saw it I thought it was going to be an E-Trade commercial but it appeared to be an Evian commercial. I am not sure if Evian is imitating E-trade but since E-trade is known for the babies on their commercial, it almost seems like Evian got the idea from E-trade. Another imitation I heard on KTLA 5 this week is Christina Aguilera’s new music video. Some people think her music video is a style imitation of Lady Gaga. I saw a little clip of the video and it does have a similar style. It’s funny how the media analyzes things like this when they don’t realize that it could have been the same music video director who does Lady Gaga’s videos. In the entertainment industry it is very common for directors to work with other artists. Other than that, regardless of their similarities in the music videos, they are both talented artists.
Vampire Diaries
April 22, 2010So, I was watching Vampire Diaries and I love this show. I don’t know what it is with the vampire craze since Twilight came out but Vampire Diaries is a really good show. Before this show came out I did not want to see anything that had to do with vampires because I knew that they were not real and the thought of them sucking blood scares me. I do know it is based on a novel and it has a very interesting storyline. I noticed the technique they used in the show was to keep the audience flow. Every time I watched the show they would always cut off into commercial break when something intense is about to happen. Even when the show is about to end, it is always something very intense that is supposed to happen. It is sometimes frustrating because just when you are about to get really interested in the storyline, the show goes to commercial break or it ends. Since it only airs on Thursday night and once a week, it makes me feel impatience that I can’t wait to see the show again.
Target Models on Ad
April 14, 2010So, I was shopping at Target yesterday and I was looking in the women’s clothing section. As I was looking around I came across the maternity women’s clothing and I saw an ad of Target models advertising the maternity clothing. In the ad there was a caucasian woman and african american woman. Both women did not look like pregnant models but looked more like plus sized models. What was interesting about this ad is that these women in the picture were shown in a club scene type of background. They were both wearing the maternity clothing sold at Target but it was weird how they were advertising the clothing of these models while they were in a club scene. I get that the lifestyle they are trying to impose is that if maternity women were to buy these clothing from Target then they would look young and hip but in reality that is not the case. Don’t get me wrong, the clothing they sell at Target are very pretty but how many pregnant women do you know that go to the club to live this type of lifestyle??!
Bristol Palin’s PSA Commercial
April 8, 2010Bristol Palin’s new PSA commercial is making headlines. I think this commercial sends a very powerful message to young teens out there. The commercial starts off with her in a beautiful room with her baby and she says that she just happens to be fortunate enough to have a supportive family and many opportunities that other people do not have. Then the background turns into a plain white room of what it would be like if she didn’t have all these opportunities. I definitely agree with her on the message she is trying to send to young teens. Many young teens seem to be getting pregnant too soon and I think it is because of the young celebrity moms they see on tv like Jamie Lynn Spears and Bristol Palin. But what they do not realize is that they don’t have the wealth and support that these teen moms have. I’m not saying if you’re a young rich teen you should get pregnant but rather it takes money to have a baby. Everyone regardless of age should think about the finances and responsibilities it takes to have a child. It is not all glamour and cuteness like how we see with these teen moms on tv and magazines especially if you don’t have stability.
Volvo Commercial Stereotypical???
March 31, 2010I find that the new volvo commercial is stereotypical. In the commercial there are two red volvos parked next to each other. A guy wearing a suit gets out of the volvo while his blonde girlfriend sits in the car. She looks to her left and there is a brunette woman sitting in the other volvo with it’s convertible top down. Both cars are the same exact model, year and color. The blonde presses a button in the car to put the top down for a convertible. Then the women look at each other and start switching clothes. The blond is wearing a business suit while the brunette is wearing a casual outfit. After they switch clothes the man in the business suit walks into the car with the brunette. Then a blond guy comes out looking confused because apparently his girlfriend just took off with another man in the same car. The blonde has a dumb look on her face. It’s crazy how her man was taken away from her. I found this commercial to be stereotypical because they were showing a steretypical lifestyle of a brunette and a blonde. The brunette woman appears to be smart and the blonde appears to be stupid in this commercial. The brunette had a boyfriend who didn’t look as good or wealthy as the blonde girl’s boyfriend so the brunette decides to steal the blonde girl’s boyfriend away. How mean is that?! If you look at the blonde woman’s outfit in the beginning it showed how high class she looked then the brunette look like she was just a middle class woman. At the end of the commercial the blonde woman was left with a bad looking middle class boyfriend and she has a dumb look on her face as she stares at the clothes she switched with the brunette. Is this a stereotypical commercial or what??!
Cheerios Commercial a Bit Contradicting??
March 26, 2010The cheerios commercial introducing the new whole grain cereal is a bit contradicting to me. There are two women in a laundry room chatting, one is folding clothes and the other is putting the clothes into the laundry machine. Obviously, they are friends. The woman folding the clothes asks the other woman “Hey, did you loose weight?” and she asks “Why?” and then the woman says “because your clothes look loose on you” and the other woman responds “It’s the Whole-Grain Cherrios.” Then the commercial shows the clip of the whole-grain cheerios box and right after it introduces the new! chocolate cheerios. I understand the whole concept of them marketing to women because women are usually on diets but also crave chocolate. It is contradicting to me in terms of the meaning of the commercial where they show the woman is proud that she lost the weight by supposedly eating whole-grain cheerios but yet they are advertising the chocolate cheerios which is fattening. I don’t know if anyone agrees with me but when I saw this commercial it made me think that the purpose of advertising whole grain cereal is to show that it is healthy but yet they are advertising chocolate cheerios…isn’t chocolate fattening???
